About the Author:
Bhagat, one of the popular Indian authors in recent times, was born in New Delhi in a Punjabi family. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) Delhi (1991–1995), and then studied at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad (1995–1997), where he was named “The Best Outgoing Student”.
He worked as an investment banker and lived in Hong Kong for eleven years before moving to Mumbai to begin his career in writing. He shot to fame with his first book “Five Point Someone – What not to do at IIT”, launched in May 2004. It was a smart mix of everything that is famous in India, the IIT brand, the meaningless pursuit of engineering as a degree (but not profession) and romance. Since then, he has written three more books which have all been very popular.
To his credit, a lot of people who don’t read books at all have read some of his books for its sheer entertainment value. Purists would be justified in criticizing his style as ‘populist’, but needless to say Chetan has a very enthusiasitc fan following, especially among young Indians.
